How DeepSeek and Next-generation aI Agents might Erode Value Of Language Models
In the internet revolution, we’re moving from building sites as the main service to actually building internet-native business – so, the Airbnb of AI, the Stripe of AI,” he included. “They are not about the model. They have to do with the system and how you make the model beneficial for jobs.”
The arrival of DeepSeek’s R1 design recently is viewed by some tech CEOs as a further indicator LLMs are becoming increasingly commoditized.
R1 integrates some crucial elements that distinguish it from other designs on the market. For example, the model integrates a “blended accuracy” structure that uses a combination of full-precision 32-bit drifting point (FP32) numbers and low-precision 8-bit floating point (FP8) numbers.
The latter is much faster to process but can be less precise. However, rather than depend on one or the other, DeepSeek utilizes FP8 for the majority of calculations and switches to FP32 for certain tasks where a higher degree of accuracy is needed.
“As AI gets more effective and available, we will see its usage skyrocket, turning it into a commodity we simply can’t get enough of,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella composed on social networks platform X, in an apparent reference to DeepSeek.
Meanwhile, Matt Calkins, CEO of U.S. software application firm Appian, informed CNBC that DeepSeek’s success simply shows that AI models are going to end up being more of a product in the future.
“In my opinion, we’re going to see a commoditization of AI. Many will achieve competitive AI, and an absence of differentiation will be bad for high-spending first-movers,” Calkins said through e-mail.
